For an amount "of at least 10 million euros" sappi is expanding its center of excellence for specialty papers at its Carmignano mill in northern Italy. The South African paper maker wants to increase its production capacity for sublimation papers, while improving its services and delivery times. Work is expected to start this summer and be completed before the end of next year.
"Our sublimation papers are ideal for a variety of products in the fashion, home textile, sportswear, flexible signage and hard substrates industries." says Luis Mata, Director of Sales Packaging & Digital Solutions. "Over the next five years, we expect demand for these papers to increase. And that's why we are now expanding our capabilities."
This center of excellence, the Digital Solutions Center, was opened in 2019, one year after the acquisition of the specialty paper business of the Swiss Cham Paper Group by Sappi . Since then, several products for dye sublimation printing have been launched on the market (such as the Transjet Tacky Industrial or the Transjet Drive).
"By expanding our Carmignano plant, we can offer a complete in-house solution for sublimation papers, from development and production, through converting to shipping, adds Pierluigi Masi, manager of the Carmignano paper mill. This will allow us to maintain the highest quality standards in all stages of production and provide world-class service to our customers, while having a positive impact on our CO2 emissions."
