The ?125 million investment will increase annual production capacity by 55,000 tons of fluting for trays and cans of fresh fruit and vegetables and reduce its environmental impact, particularly in terms of noise and odors.

Groundbreaking ceremony. Yesterday, May 9, Mondi broke ground on its major project at a ceremony attended by regional and local officials and Andrew King, the paper and packaging manufacturer's CEO. 125 million, the paper group will increase its production capacity by expanding and modernizing the Kuopio mill in Finland. Its production capacity will be increased by 55,000 tons per year. The new capacity is scheduled to come on stream in the fourth quarter of 2023.

The site, which has been owned by Mondi since late 2017, produces semi-chemical fluting used as a component of fresh fruit and vegetable trays and boxes. When it was acquired, it could produce 285,000 tons of fluting annually.

With this work, Mondi has also placed an emphasis on sustainability. Juha Koukka, managing director of Mondi Kuopio, explained: "The state-of-the-art equipment and process improvements will reduce noise and odor and effluent emissions per unit of production. They will also reduce wood losses during processing, improve energy efficiency and enhance workplace safety."

"More than 18% of Finland's exports come from the forest and paper industry, and we are proud to be a part of it, added Andrew King, CEO of Mondi Group. Our site provides jobs for 240 people - value-added jobs involving a wide range of skills and offering the potential for upward mobility."
