Mondi strengthens its presence in Western Europe with the integration of Schumacher Packaging sites With this acquisition, the paper group Mondi integrates over one billion m2 of additional packaging capacity through the acquisition of key industrial assets in Germany.

Already present in some 30 countries, with over 100 industrial sites worldwide, Mondi continues to expand its European network with the acquisition of the Western European activities of Germany's Schumacher Packaging.
With the completion of this acquisition, announced last October, the manufacturer of fiber-based packaging solutions and technical papers has added several production sites, including two very high-capacity plants in Ebersdorf and Greven, Germany, renowned for their advanced automation and industrial performance.

With this acquisition, valued at 634 million euros, Mondi integrates over one billion square meters of additional annual capacity. The paper manufacturer, with sales of 7.4 billion euros in 2024, thus strengthens its position in the corrugated board market and extends its offer to solid board.

Industrial consolidation and vertical integration

The acquisition of Schumacher Packaging's assets is part of a strategy of vertical integration, enabling Mondi to secure its supplies while controlling the entire value chain. Schumacher customers now have access to a broader portfolio, including packaging solutions, logistics services and environmental support.

"This acquisition considerably strengthens our corrugated business, expanding our footprint in Western Europe and creating strong industrial synergies." said Andrew King, Managing Director of Mondi. In this way, the Group intends to accelerate the distribution of its sustainable solutions to a wider range of customers.

Environmental objectives and efficiency gains

According to Markus Gärtner, CEO of Corrugated Packaging at Mondi Group, the aim of combining the expertise of the two organizations is to help customers to "reduce waste and carbon emissions and improve industrial performance" . The integration of the workforce and the industrial continuity announced for the German sites should enable a gradual ramp-up without disrupting existing flows.
