UPM Raflatac launches five premium label papers made from recycled fibres

This collection of recycled-fiber label materials allows for quality projects, "which is not often the case with recycled paper", says Spanish designer Albert Puigdemont of the Puigdemont Roca agency, who created a tomato juice label using one of the references.

Paper group UPM Raflatac is offering a new premium collection of five label materials for wines, spirits and beverages. The collection, called Rêverie 3, is made from FSC-certified recycled fibers.

Rêverie 3 comprises five papers: Biarritz, Drops, Fenix, Hipster and Vintage. To demonstrate the aesthetic possibilities of these products, UPM Raflatac asked five Spanish design agencies to create a label with a reference from the new range.

Paper Biarritz composed of 20% recycled fibers, has a natural pigmentation that accentuates the label's high-end appearance, says the papermaker.

Made from 100% recycled fibers, Drops features an irregular textured surface.

Label paper Fenix with 40% recycled fiber, has minimal impurities.

The label Hipster made entirely from recycled fibers, has a warm white hue and an irregular felted surface.

As for the Vintage with its 30% recycled fiber content, it is recommended for applications where an artisanal look is desired, such as craft beer. Its color is kraft brown.

For designer Albert Puigdemont of the Puigdemont Roca agency, who used Fenix paper for a tomato juice label, this range is ideal for high-quality projects, "which is not often the case with recycled paper" .

Sergio Aja Iglesias of Calcco Studio, who designed a wine label with Hipster from UPM Raflatac, says he was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the print and finish. "It seemed impossible to have elegant, high-end recycled paper for high-end products. Today, we can say that papers of this quality do exist" he added.

"This collaboration shows that recycled fiber materials can compare with other labels and offer in terms of quality and impact." concludes Eulalia Alcaraz, Business Manager at UPM Raflatac.
