Sappi Westbrook Technology Center

Sappi Europe has announced its associate membership of Intergraf, strengthening its presence within the printing industry. This collaboration enables Sappi to invest in key projects to attract a skilled workforce and defend paper's place in society, while pursuing its sustainability objectives.

The announcement of Sappi Europe's membership of Intergraf, an influential group of European associations dedicated to the printing industry, marks a further step in Sappi's commitment to the development of the graphics sector in Europe. As one of the leading producers of graphic and packaging paper, this decision positions Sappi at the heart of discussions on the sector's challenges and opportunities, particularly in terms of sustainability and talent training.

Supporting the attractiveness of the graphics industry

The European graphics industry is facing a growing shortage of skilled workers. Through the Print Your Future EU sappi is committed to attracting new talent to the sector. The aim of this project is to promote the graphic arts professions to the younger generation, by highlighting the technical and creative skills required for these professions. For printers, this represents an opportunity to guarantee the continuity of indispensable know-how in an industry undergoing rapid digital change. The program aims to improve the sector's image, while ensuring the training of a specialized workforce capable of meeting the demands of new printing technologies.

Sappi also supports the Keep Me Posted EU which campaigns for the right of citizens to receive crucial information (tax documents, invoices, electoral information) in printed form. This project is particularly important at a time when more and more services are going digital, sometimes to the detriment of those that prefer or require a physical medium.

Sappi and sustainability at the heart of the printing industry

Sustainability has become a key issue for the printing industry, known for its energy-intensive processes. As a member of Intergraf, Sappi is stepping up its efforts to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions and achieve its target of cutting its direct (Scope 1) and indirect (Scope 2) emissions by 41.5% by 2030.

Intergraf is working closely with its members to establish European standards for industrial emissions management, packaging and materials in contact with food. By joining this work, Sappi is making sustainability a priority while reinforcing its commitment to the circular economy, a crucial issue for printers seeking to green their production processes and meet growing demands for eco-labels.

Membership of Intergraf enables Sappi to participate in the exchange of information and best practices between member associations. This includes discussions on regulatory developments, innovative printing technologies and market trends. For print professionals, these exchanges are an opportunity to improve their processes, optimize their energy efficiency and remain competitive in a fast-changing market.
