The announcement came today at the opening of Labelexpo Europe 2025 in Barcelona: the benchmark trade show for labels and printed packaging will henceforth be known as Loupe. Launched in 1980 under the name Labelex, this now global series of events was intended to reflect changes in the market, explains British organizer Informa. Loupe takes the letters from "Label and outer packaging embellishment".
A repositioning driven by the convergence of technologies
Loupe intends to "embrace a broader spectrum of label and packaging", including flexible packaging and folding carton, says Labelexpo Global Series. Informa notes that the market is influenced by three trends: convergence around digital, hybrid digital and inline technologies; consolidation movements creating one-stop units covering multiple formats; and the diversification of label converters towards flexible and then folding carton.
"Just as today's label converters are diversifying and bringing several technologies under one roof, Loupe reflects this same spirit." says Andy Thomas-Emans, Labelexpo Global Series Strategic Director.
Europe, the last chapter under the old Labelexpo banner
In Barcelona, from September 16 to 19, Labelexpo Europe 2025 brings together over 650 exhibitors and confirms this trend. According to data from the 2023 edition, 40% of visitors declared an interest in flexible packaging and 25% in folding carton. This trend can also be seen on the supply side: a quarter of the current edition's exhibitors present a portfolio covering all three segments.
The first show to be organized under the new name will be Loupe Americas in 2026. Organizers say the event will continue to build on its historic âeuros base â?" the âeuros label â?" while integrating developments in the global printed packaging market.
Loupe comprises eight events organized around the world (Loupe Europe, Loupe Americas, Loupe Mexico, Loupe Asia, Loupe India, Loupe South China, Loupe Southeast Asia and Gulf Pack & Print).
