VPK sets production record with new BHS corrugator

The VPK Packaging plant in Erembodegem, Belgium, which specializes in corrugated board packaging made from recycled paper, has just set a new record. With its new BHS corrugator, the plant, which works mainly for the e-commerce, food and industrial packaging sectors, achieved a record production speed of 309.5 m/min, or 148âeuros346 mètres produced in 8 hours.

All Hubergroup GIO-compliant inks

The German Printing Inks Ordinance (GIO) is forcing manufacturers of inks for food packaging to review their formulations. For Hubergroup, this step has already been taken for all its products for food packaging applications.
The manufacturer of printing inks, which generates sales of around 743 million euros a year, is thus ready for the implementation of this German regulation governing printing inks and varnishes applied to food packaging, the deadline for which has been pushed back to January 2027.
The German manufacturer specifies that this compliance applies to "without exception to its food packaging portfolio. These include Gecko systems for flexo and gravure printing, inks and varnishes, MGA conventional sheetfed inks, the NewV Pack MGA UV range of inks and varnishes, MGA Acrylac aqueous varnishes, Hydro-X GA aqueous inks and MGA UV flexo iray inks and varnishes.

New range of heat-sealable papers from Sappi

Paper manufacturer Sappi launches Seal, a complete range of heat-sealable papers designed for recyclable packaging applications.

Aimed at printers, converters and brands seeking fiber alternatives to plastic, the collection covers grammages from 44 to 110 g/m2, finishes (including translucent) and sealing performance levels.
Suitable for flexo and helio printing, the range has been designed for easy integration into existing packaging lines, and to meet regulatory requirements such as the future European Packaging Regulation (PPWR). Available in several versions âeuros Seal Silk, Seal G Silk, Seal Pure Silk, Seal Natural, Seal Light, Seal Lucent âeuros it targets both primary and secondary packaging.

Torraspapel Malmenayde launches a high-end cardboard color chart

French distributor Torraspapel Malmenayde (TPM), part of the Lecta Group, unveils a new color chart dedicated to graphic boards, designed to facilitate the choice of printers and converters looking for high-performance substrates.

This tool, which lets you compare textures, grammages and finishes directly, brings together a selection of exclusive references held in stock at Élancourt in the Yvelines, such as Diva Art, Invercote, Incada or CKB, and technical boards, such as Ginkgo or Metalprint.

No more individual plastic bags in catering from August onwards

As part of the European PPWR regulation aimed at reducing packaging waste by 15% by 2040, individual plastic sachets (sauces, condiments, butter sugar, etc.) will be banned from August 12, 2026 in all restaurants for on-the-spot consumption.
Only takeaway sales, deliveries and healthcare establishments remain temporarily exempt. By 2030, hotel hygiene products (shampoo, soap, etc.) will also be targeted, in favor of refillable solutions.

Metsä Board acquires one of Europe's largest distribution platforms

Finnish board manufacturer Metsä Board has signed an agreement to acquire the Winschoten Sheeting and Distribution Hub in the Netherlands from Konvertia Group.
The transaction is expected to be finalized in February. No financial details have been disclosed.
The site acquired is one of the largest of its kind in Europe, with an annual capacity of around 100,000 tonnes and 22 employees.
This increase in sheet production capacity will strengthen Metsä Board's ability to "to serve its customers more flexibly and faster in its main growth market, Europe" .
