Komori-Chambon, a Komori subsidiary based in Orléans, has added a third range of high-speed flexo presses for carton packaging applications, the TwinFlex.
The special feature of the TwinFlex is the integration of a double inking unit on each printing unit. This architecture reduces floor space and allows off-line preparation of printing plates and anilox sleeves on unused inking units, enabling the next job to be anticipated during production.
Designed for high-speed printing, this continuous-feed flexo press reaches a speed of 450 m/min, including inline conversion. It accepts web widths up to 1450 mm and print widths up to 1020 mm, paving the way for large-format production.
The TwinFlex is designed for demanding carton packaging applications, including liquid packaging, folding cartons and high-volume production environments.
Like the manufacturer's other ranges (the entry-level PrimoFlex flexo press and the PowerFlex, which features one inking unit per printing unit), the TwinFlex is fully servo-driven and modular. It can be custom-configured from reel to final cut in a single pass, without intermediate handling. Inline integration of finishing solutions (die-cutting, creasing, etc.) and finishing (gilding, embossing, etc.) is also possible.
The development of TwinFlex draws on Komori Primoflex Systems' flexographic skills, combined with the Japanese group's expertise in offset web printing, engraving and rotary die-cutting tool integration.
The first installation was carried out in the United States, on a site with limited floor space. The TwinFlex replaces an older-generation flexographic press. According to Komori-Chambon, the equipment improves print quality, production speed, ergonomics and makeready times compared to the previous configuration.
