Long treated as a technical purchase, the electricity contract is becoming a subject of more detailed management in printing plants. Mint Energie advocates an approach that links contractual framework, consumption data and long-term support.

Electricity is a major cost item in the printing industry. Mint Énergie, an electricity supplier based in Montpellier, notes that many manufacturers still opt for a fixed-price contract, even if it is not the most suitable. The supplier supports its customers beyond the simple choice of contract, with an approach based on consumption history and actual site operation.

Gaël Joly, General Manager of Mint Energie, notes: "For lack of time or expertise, most manufacturers still opt for fixed-price contracts, for the sake of simplicity."

Why go beyond the standard contract

Mint Energie takes a different approach. Rather than pushing a single model, the supplier analyzes the consumption of the print site(s) before recommending a contractual framework. A fixed contract may meet a need for visibility, but it also includes a hedge against future market fluctuations. Depending on the situation, a formula that includes a degree of flexibility may be more advantageous for the printer.

Gaël Joly explains: "The aim is not to sell one type of contract, but to build the most appropriate strategy." The supplier monitors its customers throughout the duration of the contract, in order to adjust the response to site changes and market conditions.

An energy strategy that goes beyond electricity prices

Mint Energie does not limit its role to the purchasing framework. It also provides advice on audits, solarization, batteries, charging stations and regulatory issues. This approach enables printers to rely on a partner capable of enlightening their energy choices beyond a simple price comparison.
"We need to be suppliers of electrons, but also of solutions" summarizes Gaël Joly.
