Consolidation begins in the online printer market. Irish group Cimpress, owner of VistaPrint, WIRmachenDruck, Pixartprinting and Exaprint, has signed a definitive agreement with Germany's Cewe to take over Saxoprint and Viaprinto.
Based in Dresden, Germany, and founded in 1999, the Saxoprint online sales site produces flyers, brochures, catalogs and magazines for professionals, with 500 employees. Viaprinto, also based in Münster, Germany, employs around 50 people. It sells printed matter online with a service-oriented offering.
The two sites achieved sales of ?89.6 million in 2025, with an earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) margin of around 10%.
"We have specific short-term plans to generate significant synergies by setting up inter-company logistics within Cimpress, explains Robert Keane, founder and CEO of Cimpress, which is forecasting sales of $3.4 billion for 2025. Several Cimpress divisions will benefit from Saxoprint's state-of-the-art production capabilities for their flagship products, while Saxoprint will source other products from Cimpress's specialized production centers in Europe."
For Cewe, this sale marks a refocusing on photo activities, a sector in which the group is well established.
In March, Cimpress also took control of German publisher CloudLab, specialized in software for personalized printing, packaging and publishing.
The transaction remains subject to regulatory approvals, notably with regard to competition. Completion is expected between July and December 2026.
