With Samsung TV packaging boxes turn into furniture

A QR code, printed dots... and the TV box goes in the living room.

Starting this year, Samsung will market its three new TV lines in a corrugated packaging designed to be easily transformed into furniture by its customers.

To allow customers to cut and assemble the boxes, the Korean manufacturer of high-tech products printed a QR code and white dots on the entire outer packaging.

Once the QR code gives access to a library of objects to be built and their respective assembly mode. The matrix of points is used as a reference to draw and cut the boxes.

With three strokes and two strokes of the cutter, the cardboard boxes can be transformed into small tables, cat houses, shelves or magazine racks. It takes about 30 to 40 minutes to build the furniture.

"Consumers are more likely to buy from a brand that shares their values, and with our eco-packaging we believe we can offer our customers a new experience that sees the environment as an important way to express themselves" said Kangwook Chun, vice president of Samsung Electronics.

This new packaging is for The Serif, The Frame and The Sero televisions.

This packaging concept has already made a name for itself. In January of this year, Samsung won the Honoree Award for this idea at the annual Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2020 consumer technology product design and engineering competition.
