Ecologic Brands, a Californian packaging manufacturer specialising in paper-based bottles, was acquired in January by the American group Jabil. Positioned in various sectors of industry and services (automotive, aeronautics, packaging, electronics), Jabil has more than 260?000 employees in 100 sites around the world and a turnover of $27.3 billion.
With this acquisition, the group announced its intention to reduce the amount of plastic in packaging. "?En feeding Ecologic's unique paper bottle technology with Jabil's advanced manufacturing solutions and globally, we aim to help all consumer brands dramatically reduce plastics in packaging worldwide entier?" said Jason Paladino, senior vice president of Jabil and CEO of Jabil Packaging Solutions.
The Eco.bottle
Flagship product of the Ecologic Brands company, the Eco.bottle is not strictly speaking a paper bottle. It consists of an inner plastic pouch surrounded by a paper-based shell that provides rigidity. However, the company assures that the Eco.bottle contains 60% less plastic than a traditional plastic bottle. The solution has already been adopted by major brands such as L'Oréal or Seventh Generation (cleaning products).
"?Le world needs large-scale solutions that reduce plastic waste and improve circularity. Jabil's global reach and in-depth engineering expertise will propel Ecologic's sustainable packaging solutions to a global footprint in every category and type of format?." said Seventh Generation CEO Joey Bergstein.
