Know-how / The ICB print shop (77) creates a splendid calendar to share

An attractive concept, beautiful typographical work and superb execution. What more could you ask for?

It is a calendar to share in the sense of propre?! The Imprimerie Chauvat-Bertau (ICB), located in Pontcarré in Seine-et-Marne, once again surprised its recipients with its creation at the beginning of the year. Housed in a mischievously shaped box and protected by a holographic adhesive, this little printed jewel is composed of three copies of 12 beautiful multi-coloured cards. Two sets are to offer.

"Every year we try to do something different, explains Pierre Bertau, the head of the seven-person printing plant. For 2021, the graphic designer Olivier Poulet and I wanted a calendar to share: we have spent a year locked up, and we will soon be able to share moments together again. We wanted to celebrate ça?!"

Each of the cards is full of finely crafted details. The month of the year is presented on a double-sided design paper with two hot foil gilding, each time with a special effect: January is adorned with a gold curved gilding, March is adorned with a green microstructured gilding with a clover pattern, the flamboyant August on fluorescent yellow paper has a laser cut with triplex lamination which reveals a purple sciselled gilding

And the most discerning observers will notice that each special print marks the issue of the month... Yes, if you look at bien?!

"This calendar was a 'pharaonic' work, entrusts the printer to us. Gilding, embossing and laminating are processes that we carry out every day . But each month has two gilding, and almost every card is laminated to hide the impact of the gilding on the back. With a print run of 400 copies, this represents almost 15?000 sheets to be printed in 35 x25. Production started in December, a particularly busy period, and lasted until the end of January."

And if the calendar is to be shared, its realization has also been divided. "Procop provided the cards, the design is by Better Stronger Studio directed by Olivier Poulet and the gilding plates were made by EPGA Express Photogravure located near Lyon. It's a team effort!"

In previous years, the print shop had realized a round flower calendar , an easel graphic calendar and even a painting that unfolds over the months.
