MGI's digital varnishes and gilding are certified de-inkable

MGI's EcoVarnish UV coating and Green Foil hot foil

French digital printing and finishing press manufacturer MGI Digital Technology has announced the de-inkability and recyclability of its UV coatings and digital hot foils. MGI's EcoVarnish UV varnish and Green Foil hot foil have received Ingede 11 certification, which ensures that these consumables do not impede media recycling.

For nearly five years, MGI has anticipated environmental evolutions by developing consumables that meet the strictest standards. Obtaining this certification allows us to formalize these ecological criteria.

"Inventors of digital finishing some fifteen years ago, we have always been in close contact with brands, enabling them to enhance and distinguish their products at the point of sale, day after day, explains Edmond Abergel, president of MGI Digital Technology. This close relationship made us aware very early on of their expectations in terms of the recyclability of their packaging, and of the fact that our consumables had to be integrated into the current recycling channels. Obtaining Ingede 11 certifications for our UV varnish and hot foil consumables guarantees them this perfect recyclability."

MGI's hot stamping waste reused in the plastics industry

"As a major player in the hot foil stamping market through our iFOIL technology, this observation led us to develop our range of hot foils, the Green Foil range, which is perfectly de-inkable and recyclable, and to support it with a material recycling channel adds Nicolas Venance, MGI's marketing director.

This recycling channel set up by MGI allows the collection and recycling of hot stamping waste generated by its printing customers.
The manufacturer recovers the PET plastic films from the gilding process, de-inks them according to its own process, breaks them up and supplies plastics manufacturers with this plastic, which they will use as a raw material.

"By using Green Foil - and MGI EcoVarnish, brands can strongly enhance their packaging on the shelf and differentiate them with a strong added value, while fully embracing an eco-responsible approach" concludes Edmond Abergel.
