Agfa's Synaps XM substrate becomes anti-covid

Agfa's Synaps polyester substrate for xerographic printing is effective against the SARS-CoV-2 virus and against hospital bacteria, even when printed.

Belgian manufacturer Agfa is launching a new version of its Synaps Xerographic Matt (XM) synthetic paper. This new opaque polyester-based substrate for dry toner printing now includes an agent that prevents the installation and growth of bacteria, fungi and molds and viruses such as SARS-CoV-2 on its surface.

Based on silver ion technology, this anti-covid coating remains active for the life of the synthetic paper and also protects the print areas covered by the toner. Its 99.94% effectiveness has been proven in independent tests.

Synaps 100% polyester printing paper with a luxury paper look and feel has been specifically developed to have high water and tear resistance without the need for lamination.

Available in thicknesses from 100 to 350 microns, this new Synaps XM anti-covid is recommended by Agfa for loyalty cards, restaurant menus, boarding passes, counter signs and signage products.
The manufacturer also recommends it for healthcare facility printouts. "Its surface is protected not only against the installation of the SARS-CoV-2 virus, but also against antibiotic-resistant bacteria such as staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and vancomycin-resistant enterococci, also known as hospital bacteria."

The new type of Synaps XM replaces the existing XM range. Its printability, antistatic behavior and compatibility with all printers remain the same.

Agfa's Synaps range also includes Synaps OM ("matte offset"), for offset, UV inkjet, HP Indigo, flexo and screen printing, and Synaps PS ("pressure sensitive"), the OM version for adhesive labels.
