Catalogs, periodicals, books: the latest print figures

Idep reveals the numerical evolution of the printing market by sector in its latest economic letter of October 2021.

In his latest Economic letter published in October 2021, the Institute for Development and Expertise in Plurimedia (Idep) unveils the figures for print production by market in France for the first half of 2021.

In the first half of 2021, the production of commercial catalogs has increased by 6%, compared to the same period in 2020, reveals Idep. However, this increase is lower than the average for the euro zone. It should be noted that the rebound occurred in the second quarter (+20%).

The production of periodicals increased by 16% in the first six months of 2021 compared to the same period in 2020. Again, the rebound is most pronounced in the second quarter with a +50% increase.

The production of books is up 19% in the first half of 2021 compared to the first half of 2020, Idep reports. An increase above the print average. The rebound is particularly strong in the second quarter (+55%). Book imports rose 17% in the first half of the year, and exports rose 50%.

Non-personalized administrative and commercial printing are experiencing a more moderate rebound than in other markets, with a 2.8% increase in production in the first half of 2021 (but a 22% increase in the second quarter).

The production personalized management printouts increased by 9% in the first half of 2021 compared to the same period in 2020.

For the first six months of 2021, production of addressed advertising material increased by 13.6% compared to the same period in 2020, Idep reveals. The rebound occurred in the second quarter as with +33%.
