This investment by the Gascogne group in the Landes site will reduce the environmental footprint of the kraft paper mill while increasing its efficiency.

An important step in the Gascogne group's Mimizan paper mill project has been taken. The European Investment Bank (EIB) has just approved the financing of 50 million euros.

With a budget of 170 million euros - other sources of financing are under discussion - the Gascogne group based in Mimizan in the Landes region plans to install a new euro paper machine that will replace three of the site's four aging paper machines. A new building will also be built.

The Mimizan plant in the Landes region, which is part of the Gascogne Papier entity, is an integrated pulp and paper production site, from wood grinding to paper winding and cutting. It manufactures unbleached natural kraft (KNF), unbleached sack paper (SK) and technical coated papers. Its production capacity is 150,000 tons of paper per year.

The new paper machine is expected to reduce the environmental footprint of production while increasing site efficiency.

"This investment will be essential to ensure the sustainability and competitiveness of the Gascogne group. It will generate innovation, knowledge and skills in the bioeconomy" says the group, which last year achieved sales of around 358 million euros with its wood division and its packaging division, which includes paper, bags and flexible products.
