Appointment: New COO at Avery Dennison

Deon Stander, Vice President and General Manager RBIS has been named President and Chief Operating Officer.

NYSE-listed label and functional materials manufacturer Avery Dennison has named Deon Stander, 53, as chief operating officer (COO). Deon Stander assumed the position on March 1, 2022. Mitch Butier remains chairman and CEO of the 35,000-employee, $8.4 billion company.

Since 2015, Deon Stander has served as vice president and general manager of the group's Retail Branding and Information Solutions (RBIS) division, a division dedicated to solutions for the apparel and footwear industry (design, embellishment development, packaging, inventory and security technology).
He is also responsible for sustainability at Avery Dennison: in partnership with the company's leadership, he is responsible for driving efforts to achieve the company's long-term sustainability goals.

As COO, he is now responsible for the group's global business operations, with all business unit managers reporting to him. He is also responsible for sustainability at Avery Dennison.

Stander joined Avery Dennison in 2007 as part of the acquisition of Paxar, where he had worked since 2003. Prior to being named vice president and general manager of RBIS, he held a number of positions of increasing responsibility in Europe, Asia, and North America. He earned his MBA from Lancaster University, UK.
