Susana Alejandro, the first woman to preside over recycled paper and packaging manufacturer Saica, emphasizes strategic continuity while addressing environmental and innovation challenges.

It's a historic handover within the Saica Group. Susana Alejandro officially took over the presidency of the Saica Group on Monday, July 1, 2024, succeeding Ramón Alejandro, after 14 years at the helm of the Spanish-based group with 10,300 employees. A member of the family's third generation, Susana Alejandro makes history by becoming the first woman to hold this position.

Born in 1970 in Zaragoza, Susana Alejandro joined the recycled paper and packaging manufacturer in 1996 after studying business administration and further training in taxation, sales, strategic planning and governance. She gained solid experience in various divisions of the group, including finance and corrugated board, before becoming director of strategy and corporate development in 2013.

A vision of strategic continuity

In her inaugural speech, Susana Alejandro stressed that transition does not necessarily mean a change of strategy for Saica. "As a family business, we have a clear, long-term vision" she declared, insisting that changes in course would be dictated by customer needs and market fluctuations.

The objectives of the Saica 2025 strategic plan

Susana Alejandro reaffirmed the importance of the Saica 2025 strategic plan. This plan, designed to meet challenges of all kinds, focuses on seven major areas.

The company intends to strengthen its customer focus and efficiency leadership, while achieving sustainable, profitable growth.
Another objective is to design sustainable solutions that contribute to environmental protection, such as zero waste and decarbonization of its plants.
Last but not least, Susana Alejandro emphasized the human factor, not only in terms of protecting employees' health, but also with the establishment of an international organization, with motivated and efficient teams, all sharing a single vision and a single voice.

Environmental commitment and innovation

The new president also emphasized the importance of meeting the challenges of climate change. To this end, Susana Alejandro advocates the reformulation of production and consumption models, in line with the Saica Group's commitment to the circular economy. She emphasizes the development of innovative tools to achieve the company's strategic objectives.
