Cartoneo showcases its expertise during the sub-prefect's visit

On February 20, 2025, Sophie Deknuydt, sub-prefect of the Saint-Claude district, visited the Cartoneo company in Vaux-les-Saint-Claude, Jura, in the presence of the mayor and local elected representatives.
Specializing in cardboard packaging and POP displays since 1897, Cartoneo presented its expertise, particularly in large-format digital printing on cardboard. The meeting was part of the French government's initiative to support local businesses as part of its Territoires d'industrie program.

Cerm acquires Omikai Systems to accelerate its cloud development

MIS solutions provider Cerm has announced the acquisition of Omikai Systems, a Swedish company specializing in cloud-native MIS technologies for the printing and packaging industry.
Since its acquisition in 2020, Cerm has strengthened its global presence and invested since 2022 in a new cloud platform dedicated to label and packaging converters. The integration of Omikai aims to accelerate this development, while maintaining Cerm's current offering.
The acquisition will entail no change for Omikai's existing customers and partners.

Roularta modernizes its printing plant with a 5G private network from NTT DATA

Belgium's Roularta Media Group (RMG) is accelerating its digital transformation with the installation of a private 5G network deployed by NTT DATA. The project aims to optimize operations at Roularta Printing, Belgium's largest offset printer, by improving connectivity and equipment management at its 40,000 m 2 .
Thanks to this infrastructure, RMG is banking on more responsive production and the integration of new technologies, such as intelligent asset tracking and push-to-talk communications. The company also plans to extend this innovation to other sites in Belgium, Germany and the Netherlands.

Pantone creates Drew Barrymore Yellow

To mark the fiftieth birthday of American actress Drew Barrymore, Pantone has unveiled a bespoke shade in her honor: Drew Barrymore Yellow. This warm, golden yellow was designed to reflect her optimism and infectious energy, ,explains the brand.
Developed by the Pantone Color Institute, this color joins the list of customized shades dedicated to cultural figures and influential brands, alongside Minion Yellow, inspired by characters from the animated films Me, Ugly and Mean, and Prince Purple, a tribute to musical icon Prince.

32.7 million euros to decarbonize Saica plant in Spain

Spanish paper group Saica has accepted a ?32.7 million grant from the Ministry of Industry and Tourism to decarbonize its paper recycling plant at El Burgo de Ebro in Zaragoza, Spain. Requiring a total investment of 101.5 million euros, the project aims to reduce the site's fossil CO2 emissions by 53%.
The initiative includes the installation of a biomass power plant, energy optimization and the addition of equipment such as a steam turbine and a biogas boiler. In addition to the environmental benefits, the project is expected to create 440 direct and indirect jobs.

Klingele creates a research center for artificial intelligence

German paper and corrugated packaging manufacturer Klingele Paper & Packaging Group announces the creation of a research center dedicated to artificial intelligence (AI). The aim is to evaluate the possible applications of AI within the Group and implement appropriate solutions to optimize its processes and services.
Building on its innovation system and collaborations with research institutes, Klingele is entrusting this task to a new department headed by Florian Härer. A first needs and opportunities analysis report will be published in May 2025. The group, which owns three paper mills, 13 corrugated board production sites and nine converting plants in Europe, Africa and Latin America, plans in particular to exploit an AI-based consulting platform developed in partnership with the German University of Stuttgart.

Plockmatic Group strengthens its offering with the acquisition of LED coating technology

Swedish finishing solutions group Plockmatic Group acquires all intellectual property rights and technologies relating to the LED-cured coating solution previously held by Tony Michiels, founder of SP Tec Spare Parts International.
This acquisition consolidates Plockmatic's mastery of this technology, designed for both inline and offline printing configurations, by now integrating production, spare parts management and customer support.

Tony Michiels and Marc Prade, software systems and support engineer, will continue to work with Plockmatic to support the development of this business as part of the Plockmatic Group. Jan Marstorp, CEO of Plockmatic Group, emphasizes that this acquisition expands the company's capabilities and supports the industry's transition to more sustainable solutions.
