Saica is launching an adhesive tape made of recycled and recyclable paper from its own fibers. Designed to adhere to paper and cardboard, with an unwind and overlap suitable for reel banding applications, this new linerless solution opens the door to many potential applications, assures its manufacturer.
While paper ribbons are usually limited in terms of circularity, the Spanish papermaker says it has overcome these problems by guaranteeing that this solution can be repulped and its fibers recovered.
The ribbon is compatible with standard reel packaging machines. No equipment modification or investment is required.
This ribbon is already in use at Saica Paper's El Burgo de Ebro site in Spain. A gradual roll-out has been announced for the Group's other paper production lines in Europe.
Federico Asensio, Saica Group's Director of Technology and Innovation, emphasizes: "At Saica, we're convinced that applying this innovation to reel-to-reel tape is just the first step. We see many more possibilities ahead, and our research continues in this direction. This breakthrough paves the way for new opportunities to enhance the sustainability and performance of our product portfolio."
The fibers are produced by Saica Paper and then processed by Saica Flex into self-adhesive tape.
