Saica commissions an 86-million-euro biomass boiler in Nogent-sur-Seine
The Spanish group Saica, which specializes in recycled paper and corrugated and flexible cardboard packaging, has commissioned a biomass boiler at its facility in Nogent-sur-Seine, in the Aube department.
Representing an investment of 86 million euros, this facility replaces the old natural gas boilers.
With a thermal capacity of 49.75 MW, the facility will generate approximately 300 GWh per year, or 90% of the paper mill?s steam needs. A 5.5 MW turbine will also generate 37 GWh of electricity per year, covering 28% of the site?s electricity consumption.
The boiler will run on 65,000 metric tons of wood waste collected within a radius of about 100 kilometers and will also enable the recovery of more than 97% of the byproducts from paper manufacturing.
According to Saica, this investment will reduce the plant?s natural gas consumption by 89% and its direct CO2 emissions by 75%, or nearly 50,000 metric tons per year. Following Venizel and Champblain-Laveyron, this is the third biomass boiler commissioned by the group in France.
