Xeikon's Titon, the new toner for food contact packaging

Heat-seal resistant, this dry toner for paper-based media does not require any surface treatment.

Food contact inks for digital printing are on the rise. After Heidelberg with its saphira Labelfire UVLM inks launched in December, it is now the turn of the manufacturer Xeikon to present a digital ink for food contact without the need for surface treatment.

Called Titon, this toner is based on the manufacturer's dry toner technology and is intended for paper-based packaging with direct or indirect food contact. The first digital press compatible with Titon technology will be the 508 mm wide Xeikon Cheetah Cx500t.

Titon toner is said to be resistant to scratches, water, sunlight, high temperatures (even heat-sealing temperatures of 220-260°C) and a variety of liquid chemicals, without the need for any type of protective coating - lacquer or Euro-laminate.

Titon can be used to produce different types of flexible packaging for food products such as bags and pouches in single sided coated papers or bakery products, confectionery, sugar and flour, herbs and spices, tea and coffee in double sided coated papers.

With these new types of food contact inks for digital printing, printers can offer brands the opportunity to switch to recyclable paper-based packaging applications that previously could not be supported by digital printing.
