With the new press installed, the Mondi Grünburg plant is increasing its offset capacity by about 60 percent and the hourly output of the Koenig & Bauer press by about 35 percent.

Paper and packaging manufacturer Mondi has inaugurated its new Rapida 164 six-colour sheetfed offset press with inline coater at its Grünburg plant in Austria.

The offset press from the manufacturer Koenig & Bauer is intended to strengthen the position of the group, which is active in around 30 countries, as an integrated supplier of flexographic and offset corrugated packaging solutions in Austria.

The installation of the Rapida 164 was accompanied by an optimisation of the internal logistics and infrastructure. The press is equipped with QualiTronic ColorControl, which controls inline inking, and various other automation modules. It can apply a multitude of different types of coating inline, including gloss, matt, tactile and even scented finishes.

Halving of the set-up time

The offset printed and inline coated corrugated boards on this press are used for the production of custom packaging, mainly for the food industry and consumer goods manufacturers.

Thanks to the 120 x 164 cm format of the press, the corrugated sheets to be printed are approximately 40% larger than the previous press from 2007.

And with its higher print speed of up to 16,000 sheets, the Rapida 164's hourly output increases by around 35%. Makeready times have also been cut in half.

With these investments, the plant increases its offset production capacity by approximately 60%.
