This new 25,000 m2 corrugated packaging production site requires an investment of 35 million euros.

This week, Smurfit Kappa launched the construction of its first plant in Morocco. The Irish paper-based packaging manufacturer, which operates 350 production sites worldwide and has a presence in 36 countries, had only one sales department in the country until now.
Located in Rabat, this 25,000 m 2 will produce corrugated packaging for the industrial, agricultural, consumer products, automotive, pharmaceutical and ceramic sectors for local customers and multinationals based in Morocco.

"In a market where demand for corrugated packaging currently exceeds supply, the new plant will play an important and strategic role." the packaging producer said in a statement. According to Edwin Goffard, director of corrugated board operations and converting at Smurfit Kappa Europe, "customers want to know that their products are being transported and presented in the most efficient and sustainable way possible."

Ignacio Sevillano, CEO of Smurfit Kappa Spain, Portugal and Morocco, adds: "The new facility will also incorporate an experience center, our 30th in the world, which will foster collaboration with our customers and provide creative ideas and insights."

This first Moroccan corrugated packaging plant of Smurfit Kappa is expected to start up in early 2023.
