It is a first in this sector, the Château Galoupet, a vineyard of the LVMH group, markets its wine in a recycled and recyclable plastic bottle. Scandal or good idea?

A plastic bottle for a great vintage

LVMH breaks the codes of the wine industry with the material and shape chosen for the packaging of its Côtes de Provence wine, "Galoupet Nomade 2021". Flat and plastic this surprising bottle has multiple environmental benefits this is in line with the group's ecological commitment:

  • unbreakable ;
  • light ;
  • compact.

" The idea was to design a luxury product, with a very good quality wine made from grapes in conversion to organic viticulture, while changing the codes of the sector "explains Kelly Rahman, Brand Manager of Château Galoupet.

Plastic and organic rosé wine, a sustainable agreement

Marketed since May 2022 and presented at the "VivaTech" innovation fair, the Galoupet Nomade bottle is made of recycled (and recyclable) plastic, exclusively from collections near coastal areas to help limit ocean pollution . The production of this type of packaging requires significantly less water than the manufacture of a glass container . Ten times lighter than a classic bottle, its weight is reduced to 63 grams, which includes a 56% reduction in carbon emissions during transportation .

Another unusual distinction is its flat shape, which generates another significant logistical gain: 40% space saved compared to a glass bottle.

Kelly Rahman reminds us, on the occasion of the VivaTech trade show, that traditional bottles for rosé wines cannot incorporate recycled glass because of their transparency. Their weight is also an essential factor in the group's approach to substitute plastic for glass on a permanent basis, with a view to obtaining organic certification for the vineyard in 2023.
