The 2021 vintage of this Bordeaux grand cru is adorned with a label featuring an illustration by a Japanese artist evoking the relationship between man and nature.

Château Mouton Rothschild remains faithful to a tradition established in 1945, by adorning its latest vintage with a label illustrated by a contemporary master. Berlin-based Japanese artist Chiharu Shiota has signed the label for the 2021 vintage of the prestigious grand cru, with an original work entitled Universe of Mouton.

A discreet silhouette can be seen on the left, linked by four wires to an impressive cloud of red bubbles.

"The four lines linking man to the universe represent the four seasons (winter, spring, summer, autumn) and all the emotions associated with them: loneliness, hope and fulfillment. It's like preserving the memory of the year in wine. I find this fascinating because I also believe that the objects that surround us retain our memories and our existence" explains Chiharu Shiota.

On this wine label, we find the Japanese artist's universe, centered on the concept of memory and consciousness, often marked by the color red and by the representation of everyday objects, such as shoes, keys, beds, chairs and dresses, caught in large structures of suspended wires.

During her visit to Château Mouton Rothschild, Chiharu Shiota declared herself inspired by the relationship between winegrowers and nature.
Julien de Beaumarchais de Rothschild, who is in charge of the estate's artistic and cultural activities, comments "fascinated by Chiharu Shiota's vision, so close to our world of wine, particularly in the relationship between man and nature, fragile and fertile, generous but unpredictable. And this bright red, one of his favorite colors, reminds us of new wine coming out of the vats" .

Chiharu Shiota's label will join the L'Art et l'Etiquette exhibition, created in 1981 by Baroness Philippine de Rothschild, and enrich a unique collection featuring works by Salvador Dali, Picasso, Andy Warhol, Pierre Soulages, César, Annette Messager and others.
