Nestlé tests paper packaging for Kit Kat

With this major test, Nestlé wants to gather consumer feedback on this paper packaging for Kit Kat bars.

After the smarties sweets yesâeuros! cereal bars, Nesquik All Natural chocolate powder or maggi bouillon cubes nestlé is tackling the plastic packaging of Kit Kat chocolate bars. Since the beginning of the month, and for the first time, the Swiss food giant has been testing a paper packaging with a thin metal barrier film on the Australian market and recyclable in the household paper cycle.

With this real-life test, the group wants to gather consumer feedback on this new material. More than 250,000 chocolate bars will be distributed in Coles supermarkets in certain regions.

This test is a way for the group to "innovate" and "explore all avenues" to achieve its goal of reducing the use of virgin plastics by one-third by 2025.

Chris O'Donnell, general manager of confectionery and snacks for Nestlé Oceania, said in a statement: "Through our partnership with Coles, this packaging trial gives Australian chocolate lovers a voice on our innovative KitKat packaging. The feedback we receive from this test will help us design the next step (...)"

Consumers will be able to provide feedback by scanning the QR code printed on the paper packaging of the chocolate bars which will provide access to a series of questions about the new paper packaging.

Nestlé has already made changes on kit Kat packaging. Since 2019, in Japan the secondary packaging of this product is made of paper.
