Durst Brixen: a solar-powered headquarters

With 3,410 photovoltaic panels spread over 6,584m2 of roof, the headquarters of the Italian company Durst produces more than a third of its electricity from the sun.

Digital printing systems manufacturer Durst has installed a full-fledged solar panel factory on the roof of its headquarters in Brixen (or Bressanone), Italy. The solar plant is expected to produce more than 1,700,000 kWh of energy per year. This corresponds to the electricity needs of 550 households or more than 50% of Durst Brixen's energy demand.

The project, which lasted six months due to bad weather, involved the installation of 3410 photovoltaic panels, two separate power plants and 14 inverters. The technology used also includes power optimizers that maintain the performance of a series of modules even in the presence of partial shading or pollution. The numerous boxes of panels were transported by helicopter to be fixed on the 6,584 m 2 of the building.

70% of the energy generated by the sun will be used for the direct consumption of the site, which represents about 35% of its needs. The remaining 30% will be re-injected into the common network or kept in a future storage solution.

In addition to the management of the Italian group, the site houses the research and development, production, marketing, sales, logistics and service departments and is also the main production site for the brand's printing systems.

"Following the installation of a solar power plant at our production site in Lienz, Austria in 2022, we are delighted to have installed one of the largest solar power plants in the province of South Tyrol in Brixen, said Christoph Gamper, CEO of the Durst Group. We are proud to take this important step to reduce our carbon footprint and make a positive impact on the environment."
