Koenig & Bauer invests in holograms for banknotes

Koenig & Bauer Banknote Solutions and Gietz have signed a strategic partnership to develop OVD applications.

Koenig & Bauer and Switzerland's Gietz will work together to develop security hologram (or OVD for Optically Variable Device) applications for banknotes for public and private fiduciary printers. The banknote division of the German offset press manufacturer and the 65-person company specializing in hot foil stamping, embossing and tray forming machines have entered into a partnership that includes three major points.

Together, the two groups will work on the NotaFoil, an applicator machine based on Gietz's FSA 1060 Foil Commander Nota technology that will feature proprietary control, drying and modular multi-stack receiving systems from Koenig & Bauer Banknote Solutions.
They will also develop a high volume application platform.
And Gietz will develop a package of upgrades and services for the already installed Koenig & Bauer OptiNota H machines.

For Koenig & Bauer Banknote Solutions, OVD applications are a core element of its trust offering. Eric Boissonnas, CEO of Koenig & Bauer Banknote Solutions, said: " This partnership reflects the significant development in the field of OVD and foil technologies, which requires new application solutions to add value to banknotes.

The technologies developed under this new partnership will be commercialized by Koenig & Bauer Banknote Solutions.
