Transfer of power at Avery Dennison: Deon Stander takes over from Mitch Butier

Deon Stander, current President and COO of Avery Dennison, will become Group CEO from September.

American label and functional materials manufacturer Avery Dennison is undergoing a change of leadership. Effective 1 er as of September 2023, Deon Stander will become Chairman and CEO of the $9 billion group with 36,000 employees. He will replace the retiring Mitch Butier, who will remain with the Group as Executive Chairman.

Deon Stander, 54, holds an MBA from Lancaster University in the UK and a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Port Elizabeth in South Africa. He joined Avery Dennison on the acquisition of Paxar Corporation in 2007, where he has been President and COO since March 2022.

Mitch Butier, current CEO of Avery Dennison, said in a statement: "During his 20-year career with the company, he has held a number of executive positions around the world with increasing responsibility and impact. He has a proven track record, including leading the transformation of our Solutions business and helping to accelerate our smart label platform. He is the right leader to ensure we reach even greater heights, and I look forward to supporting him and the company in my role as Executive Chairman."
