Durst presents its Durst Hawk Eye control and correction technology

Durst Hawk Eye technology, based on artificial intelligence, detects faulty printhead nozzles and corrects these errors on the fly, without any reduction in print speed.

At Labelexpo 2023, held in Brussels, Belgium, from September 11 to 14, Italian manufacturer Durst presented a new real-time control and correction technology. Based on artificial intelligence, this system, called Durst Hawk Eye, is designed to assist operators and automate print quality on Durst's Tau RSC range of inkjet label and packaging printers.

Comprising a scanner, workstation and touch screen, this "hawk's eye" precisely detects and locates printing errors from faulty inkjet printhead nozzles across the entire web width, in-line and on-the-fly, without speed reduction.
The system then corrects the problem by using neighboring nozzles to compensate for print defects with larger ink drops. Operators don't need to configure the system, and there's no need to print a special test pattern.

"The Durst Hawk Eye is a game-changer for the digital printing industry, says Martin Leitner, Durst Group Product Manager. This technology will dramatically increase productivity and efficiency, but more importantly, it will reduce waste and our customers' carbon footprint."
