Book finishing: Tecnau and Meccanotecnica combine rotary cutting and thread sewing

Tecnau's Revolution 50 with Meccanotecnica's Universe Web in its Full Cycle version

The integration of Tecnau's reel cutting solutions with Meccanotecnica's Universe Web continuous sewing system expands the configurations available for finishing digital books. Two lines are available for intermediate and industrial production rates.

Coil cutting and processing specialist Tecnau integrates the continuous thread sewing system developed by binding machine manufacturer Meccanotecnica, Universe Web, into its coil cutting solutions.

With this configuration, the two Italian manufacturers aim to simplify the transition from digitally printed roll to sewn block, using an in-line process to reduce downtime and operator intervention.

Tecnau and Meccanotecnica currently offer two solutions: a mid-range configuration integrating the Cutter c7 with the Universe Web system, and a line featuring the Revolution 50 with Universe Web in its Full Cycle version.

An intermediate configuration around the Cutter c7

The line combining the Tecnau Cutter c7 cutting system with the Universe Web system is aimed at digital printers handling mixed volumes.
The Cutter c7 cuts rolls into sheets up to 584 mm (23 inches) wide. The solution accepts a wide range of grammages, including lightweight papers used in publishing.
The system is adapted to short and medium runs, with simplified job changes and a limited number of operator contact points.

An industrial line with Revolution 50 and Universe Web Full Cycle

For higher speeds, Tecnau offers integration of the Revolution 50 platform with Universe Web in its Full Cycle version.
The Revolution 50 is designed for continuous belt transport, precise pre-seam cutting and extended operation.
The Full Cycle version of Universe Web covers the entire sewing cycle on a continuous basis. The package is designed for workshops working in extended shifts, with high repeatability and process stability requirements.

Stefano De Marco, CEO of Tecnau, states: "The integration of Tecnau's roller diecutting systems and Universe Web is designed to deliver robust, flexible and stable workflows in one of the most demanding environments. In digital book printing, reducing interruptions and ensuring smooth, predictable processes make all the difference, and this is precisely where this joint solution creates real added value for the industry."
