Dimense Surface: Roland DG Launches Its Own Brand of Textured Wallpaper

Roland DG is expanding the scope of its Dimense technology with a product line aimed directly at the interior design market.

Roland DG isn't launching a new printer, but rather a brand of wall coverings that uses its Dimense textured printing technology. Called Dimense Surface, this high-end brand?which was just unveiled at the 2026 London Design Festival?is aimed at architects, interior designers, and specifiers. It features a collection of patterns as well as customizable designs.

The wallpapers are printed on demand by certified printers equipped with Dimense technology. Once produced, they are delivered and can be installed by a Dimense Surface installer.

Dimense Surface is based on technology developed by Roland DG around the DA-640 large-format inkjet printer, water-based inks, and PVC-free media. The DA-640, with a print width of 1,625 mm, combines CMYK printing with the application of a textured ink. When heated, the surface of the media expands in the areas defined by this special ink to form raised patterns up to 2 mm high.

Dimense Surface media are made from a plasticizer-free polyolefin compound. Some can also be painted after printing. Roland DG also offers High Resist media and various finishes for applications requiring enhanced scratch resistance.

To launch this line, Roland DG partnered with four design studios: Nice Projects and JAM in London, Loveisenough in New York, and Keiji Ashizawa Design in Tokyo. Each studio created designs that highlight the interplay between print and texture. An in-house collection rounds out this initial series.

The available applications include residential interiors, hotels, and commercial spaces. Depending on the product, the materials meet several standards and certifications, including Greenguard Gold, FSC, the French A+ classification for VOC emissions, and various fire-resistance standards.

With Dimense Surface, Roland DG is using a brand of finished products to make its textured printing technology available to decision-makers in the interior design market.
