Hardware / The TrueVIS XG-640, the new large-format printer from Roland DG

Roland DG renews its TrueVIS range with the XG-640, a 64-inch model equipped with the new TR3 GBL-free inks. Designed for productivity and versatility, this printer/cutter is the most productive in the entire range.

Since the creation of its integrated printing and die-cutting technology more than three decades ago, Roland DG has constantly enriched its offering for the signage, labeling and textile personalization markets. Today, the Japanese manufacturer launches the first machine of its new generation, the TrueVis XG-640.

Billed as the most productive of the entire TrueVis range, the XG-640 is based on staggered print heads that eject finer droplets at higher densities. This design, combined with a new data processing system, delivers up to 22.5 m 2 /h four-colour process on PVC and 15.2 m 2 /h in 8 colors. It can be configured in double CMYK or extended 8-color gamut (with the options light cyan, light magenta, orange, green or double white)

TR3 inks, GBL-free with denser white

This new TrueVis uses TR3 inks, an eco-solvent formulation free from GBL (gamma-butyrolactone), a substance classified as a concern in several European countries.

Roland DG has announced a wider color gamut and greater white density. Compared to the previous VG3 model, white is 3 times faster and 1.3 times more opaque, which could appeal to professionals in window marking or under-color applications.

Roland DG's own True Rich Color option is still available. It lets you calibrate printing according to three predefined profiles (brighter, deeper or softer color), designed to facilitate the management of flesh tones, neutral grays or gradations.

TrueVis XG-640 with automation features

The XG-640 integrates several automation functions, such as media loading and end-of-production rewinding.
The pinch rollers are motorized, providing optimum support without manual intervention.
A perforated sheet cutting system and automatic head-to-sheet gap adjustment are also available. Preventive maintenance is ensured by programmable self-cleaning functions.

On the software side, the XG-640 printer introduces macOS compatibility for the VersaWorks 7 RIP. This version features increased processing capacity and a redesigned user interface. In addition, the machine is supported by the Roland DG Connect cloud platform, enabling users to track productivity, schedule maintenance and diagnose errors remotely.

Ryugo Nimura, President of Roland DG's Worldwide Sales and Marketing Division, says the XG-640 is designed to "to meet the needs of a demanding market in terms of short lead-times and diversity of applications".
