Stakes, shadows and a terrifying silhouette on the BBC billboard

The display had to reflect the creative spirit of the series. It was a gamble that paid off, didn't it?

The creative studio of the British television channel BBC has created a particularly original billboard to mark the launch of the new mini-series Dracula created by Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss.

For this three-episode series, which starts airing on January 4, BBC Creative has set up a shadow play to project the silhouette of the Transylvanian vampire's face that appears as darkness falls. In front of the billboard, a "To break in case of vampires" box has also been erected to create additional fear and excitement.

Two billboards have been installed in England, one in London on Brixton Road and the other in Birmingham on Upper Dean Street.

"Our unique campaign is one of the most special and ambitious constructions we have ever undertaken, said Olly Harnett, head of BBC Creative, in a statement. By day, they are stakes randomly planted in a billboard, but at night, it turns, as if the count were coming to life, into a menacing shadow."

And Chris Hooper, head of marketing at BBC One, explains: " Designed by the creators of Sherlock, this version of Dracula is full of black humor with a rock star style. We wanted our campaign to reflect this new adaptation of a classic character by Steven and Mark. So every element was designed to surprise - from the cheeky Bloody Legend catchphrase to the use of the song Lust For Life (from Iggy Pop, NLDR) in the trailers and this special construction that allows a playful and ironic approach to the legend."

"Our campaign for Dracula leaves no doubt in the minds of the public that they can expect something new and unexpected from this extraordinary adaptation of the vampire classic." adds Olly Harnett.
