Saica Pack packaging group closes two sites and builds a new one

The packaging company will move from a two-site structure to a main plant.

Papermaker Saica announces an investment of more than £50 million (?60 million) in its packaging division, Saica Pack. The Spanish group will set up a new plant in Livingston, Scotland, but will also close two sites, one in Edinburgh and one in Milngavia. The new site will be completed by the end of 2021.

This new facility will be dedicated to sustainable packaging solutions and will increase the group's production capacity. The papermaker justifies this decision by "changing customer demand, aging facilities and challenges at existing sites".. .

According to the Scottish newspaper The Scotsman Milngavie employs 94 people in Milngavie and 147 in Edinburgh. Saica assures that the vast majority of the new positions at the Livingston site will be filled by existing staff, but does not specify the number of employees at the new plant.

"This is an important day for Saica Pack (...) our new site in Livingston will offer the latest and most innovative technology while improving our service and capabilities." says in a statement Adam Haycock, regional director of Saica Pack Scotland.

Saica Pack's other site in Scotland, the sheet mill in Grangemouth, is not affected by this announcement.
