Coronavirus: Sun Chemical raises ink prices

This would be another consequence of the Covid-19 outbreak on the graphic chain.

Sun Chemical will apply surcharges on the prices of liquid solvent inks and varnishes in Europe from 1 January 2010 er april.

The largest ink manufacturer cites the current situation, which would exercise a "considerable pressure" in the alcohol supply chain - particularly ethanol.
"With supply already tight in the second half of 2019 due to a poor feedstock harvest increasing demand for fuel ethanol, coronavirus (Covid-19) has caused a further increase in demand for pharmaceuticals and disinfectants as governments consider allocation measures. As global availability declines, prices are rising rapidly."

If ten days ago, Sun Chemical was quite confident about the supply of its production chain (read Coronavirus and Sun Chemical inks: An update on the situation ), it now indicates that there is a risk that "Governments are seizing products for health emergencies - a situation beyond Sun Chemical's control".

This increase in demand for ethanol is also having an impact on the flexo printed food packaging industry (read Concern of food packaging manufacturers )

The U.S. manufacturer says the increase, which varies by product type, will last until the situation normalizes.
