Survey on consumers and environmental labels
The results of a survey by the Toluna Institute for the Communication Association on the environmental performance of paper/cardboard and Two Sides print on European consumers' packaging preferences revealed that not all environmental labels are well recognised by consumers.
64% of respondents said they were aware of the FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) label, and 55% were aware of the PEFC (Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification Schemes) label. The Möbius loop, which indicates that packaging is recyclable, is the most recognised logo in Europe (86% of respondents). It is also considered the most important marking by consumers.
Copyright infringement complaint against a "national emergency bookstore" in the United States
Four major publishing houses - Hachette, HarperCollins, John Wiley & Sons and Penguin Random House - filed copyright infringement lawsuits against Internet Archive in the United States on Monday, June 1. The California-based digital platform created in March a "national emergency bookstore" by offering 1.4 million digital books during the containment period.
Readers who borrow a book from this "national emergency library" can read books for free (up to 10 at a time) for two weeks.
Faced with the reaction of the publishing houses, Internet Archive has just announced that it will close its doors on June 16, two weeks before the date originally planned.
"Publishers suing libraries for lending out books, in this case protected digital versions, while schools and libraries are closed, is not in anyone's interest." had indicated Internet Archive when learning of the publishers' actions.
