Latest figures for print production in France

The Idep has published its economic newsletter which provides the main indicators describing the activity of the sector.

In its latest Economic Newsletter published in June, the Institute for the Development and Expertise of Multimedia (Idep) unveils the figures for print production by market in France for the 1st quarter of 2010 er quarter of 2020.

"?Au first quarter 2020, as a result of containment measures, overall print production and manufacturing output fell by 9% and 7%, respectively, compared to the same period of the year 2019?", indicates the organization.

The decline was most pronounced in March (containment began on March 16): -18% in printing production and -16% in manufacturing production. Imports, all markets combined, were down 24%.

Printed advertising material and commercial catalogues

Addressed and unaddressed printed advertising was strongly impacted by the shutdown of the business, with production declining by 15% and 10% respectively in the first quarter of 2020 compared to the same period last year. As for the volume of imported advertising printed matter, it fell by 33%.

The decline was less significant in the production of commercial catalogues: -6% in the first quarter (and -30% in imports).

Books and periodicals

At the beginning of the crisis, the closure of bookstores had an impact on book production (-10% in the first quarter). On the other hand, the continued opening of newsstands mitigated the decline in periodical production (-6%). Imports of periodicals decreased by 39%.

Customized management printouts

Finally, production of personalized business forms decreased by 16% in the first quarter of 2020.
