Arjowiggins launches new recyclable translucent barrier paper

Fully recyclable, compostable and biodegradable, Sylvicta is a new solution for food packaging.

Papermaker Arjowiggins presents Sylvicta, an alternative barrier solution to packaging plastics. Recyclable, compostable, degradable and made from renewable raw materials, Sylvicta is a translucent paper with a barrier to oxygen, aromas, mineral oils and fats. It is intended for the preservation of food and cosmetics.

Available in grammage of 42 g/m 2 and up to 180 g/m 2 This translucent, recyclable paper can be gilded, embossed, printed in offset, flexo and rotogravure and coated with hot or cold sealable materials.

"Despite the migration to more sustainable packaging solutions, plastics remain a common choice, largely for practical reasons. So far, the majority of the existing offer, mainly in single-use packaging, uses non-recyclable multi-layer laminates incorporating plastics or aluminium foil", explains Christophe Jordan, Managing Director of Arjowiggins' Translucent Papers Division. "With Sylvicta, these solutions can be transformed into fully recyclable, compostable and biodegradable paper packaging." he assures.

Arjowiggins is the former Arjowiggins Creative Papers division, which until October 2019 belonged to the French group Sequana. This new Arjowiggins company is based in Scotland and headed by Jonathan Mitchell (read Arjowiggins Creative Papers emerges from recovery thanks to its new owner ). It operates three paper mills in Europe - in Stoneywood and Chartham in the United Kingdom and Guarro Casas in Spain - and one in China - in Quzhou.
