The Volumia printing house spreads its wings

Specialization, machine investments, hiring, new service... Volumia has evolved a lot in two years.

The Volumia company, located near Limoges in Haute-Vienne, is born in May 2019 from the acquisition of the offset printing company Ediisprint by Alban Clech and Benoit Gallian. The two managers wanted to reorient the production, which was exclusively composed of banking products, towards POS, marketing and packaging. Today, this evolution is well underway and the machine park is perfectly adapted to these new markets.

"We do 80 percent POP and packaging, for food markets, pharmacies and veterinarians." agrees Benoit Gallian, general manager of Volumia, which has 25 employees. In 2020 - a particular economic year - the company has achieved a turnover of 2.5 million euros, almost similar to that of Ediisprint. "We've hired and we've grown in competence and responsiveness."

Last September, Volumia set up a three-person design office "We are well positioned in terms of pricing and strength of proposal for the client who sends us briefs. We develop custom POS models and 3D packaging that we stage in a sales location. The customer can get a good picture of what he is going to order."

Two new machines dedicated to short runs

Volumia has also changed a lot in terms of machinery. In January, the Limoges-based company installed its first large-format digital production line, consisting of a 2.5 x 4 m Jeti Tauro H2500 led printing press and a 1.8 x 3.2 m Zund G3 L-3200 cutting table. A laminator for medium runs was also installed at the same time.

"We have more and more requests for short runs for theatrical and advertising furniture (arches, totems, stands...). We were only equipped with offset and therefore had to subcontract these short runs. Today, we produce all these products in-house."

"With the Jeti Tauro H2500 led, we had one week of training and two weeks later we were already operating in 2 x 8, appreciates the printer. And Agfa's Asanti workflow manages the geometry and image: the data is dispatched to the print and cut. A QR code is printed on the Agfa which is recognized by our Zund. We can send 10 sheets with different geometries and each time the cutting machine distinguishes the prints and uses the right program to cut the shape. It's very convenient and efficient."

A subsidiary created and new projects

Benoit Gallian also created a subsidiary, called Action PLV, in December. "The functioning of Action PLV is based on the principle of integration through work. About twenty people in difficulty are part of the company and work on assembling POP displays in volume. We train them on our printing, cutting and gluing equipment."

Now, the managers are working on a project to expand the factory, which could be completed in the second half of the year. And they are aiming for a turnover of 3 million euros by 2021.
