The figures for printing in France after the second containment

Idep unveils the latest figures for the graphic arts industry in its March 2021 Economic Letter.

Despite less restrictive measures than during the first containment, the second containment in November 2020 has of course impacted French print production.

In 2020, overall print production in France was down 19.1% compared to 2019 and manufacturing output fell by 12.2%, reports the Institute for Development and Expertise in Plurimedia (Idep) in its latest Economic Letter published in March 2021.

Decline in production in the various printing markets

In detail, Idep reports that: the periodical and addressed advertising print markets each declined by 19.7%; the book market declined by 18%; the catalog market declined by 14.3%; the unaddressed advertising print market declined by 18.3%; the personalized business print market declined by 23.3%; and the non-personalized administrative and commercial print market declined by 16.7%.

Foreign trade

According to figures released by Idep, print imports in 2020 (all markets) were down 24% from 2019 to 545,360 tons of print. Exports, meanwhile, fell 17% to 112,161 tons.
