Rennes-based scop Média Graphic commissioned a Rapida 105 five-color LED-UV press last November to replace one that was over 10 years old. Despite the Covid crisis, the printer has chosen to invest to prepare for the future.
"We needed to change presses because our old press was getting old and we wanted to keep a high level of performance. So we took advantage of the fact that it was a quiet period to install a new machine without our production being impacted by the dismantling of the old press and the installation of the other.», explains Goulwen Plesse, Managing Director of Media Graphic. "And above all we believe in the future and the beautiful printed project.»
30% productivity gain
Equipped with the latest generation of LED dryers, the new Rapida 105 is the fourth Koenig & Bauer press to make its debut at the printer.
"We had a good experience with LED-UV on our old machine following a retrofit by Koenig & Bauer. And we wanted to continue in this way. Our objective is to go towards the top of the range, even very top of the range. So LED technology is what we need. It allows us to print at high intensity and high load without having to suffer from processing problems. And it doesn't distort the substrate. In addition, it allows us to shorten our lead times, which is particularly interesting for our customers from the world of Parisian theaters.»
The press is also equipped with the new-generation QualiTronic ColorControl on-board color control system, which measures each sheet of the run and dynamically regulates inline inking every 10 sheets, thereby significantly reducing start-up waste and makeready times. The printer says it has already seen productivity gains of around 30% with the QualiTronic.
