Six takeover bids for the Chapelle Darblay paper mill

UPM's decision on these offers will be known on June 30.

On Monday 10 May, an industrial commission was held in Seine-Maritime with local elected representatives and the Finnish group UPM. Together they reviewed the offers to take over the Grand-Couronne paper mill, Chapelle Darblay.

Up for sale in September 2019, the newsprint mill owned by the UPM Group had closed last July for lack of a buyer. The paper mill employed 230 people.

Today, six non-binding offers have been received, announced the office of the Prefect of Seine-Maritime at the end of this commission.

"The projects and the nature of the applicants are diverse: four offers are in the paper/cardboard field, one in the decarbonized energy and recycling field, one in the logistics field." he says.

The Finnish paper group reiterated to the members of the commission its determination to sell the site. It has also asked the six candidates to submit a firm offer by mid-May. And it will make its decision on these different offers known by June 30.

An effective sale of the site could then be envisaged during the third quarter of 2021.
