The group specializing in multi-material boxes and cases has announced that it is expanding its cardboard packaging production capacity at its Grumbe site in Spain, with the goal of balancing the company's business 50/50 between cardboard and R-PET within three years.
Grumbe gives precise objectives for its development: by the end of 2021, the company wants to double its semi-automatic production capacity of rigid boxes, and increase its production capacity of cases to 15 million units. Grumb has recently invested in a new Bobst unit to equip itself with the latest cutting, folding and gluing technologies.
The company says it wants to provide an "eco-friendly" alternative to plastic solutions by using FSC-certified cardboard, cardboard and microflute packaging.
Maxime d'Haussy, Director of Operations for the Cosfibel Industries cluster, explains:
« This is a shift, not a break. Grumbe continues to offer the R-PET packaging for which it is known and which meets a market need. These packages are made of recycled (50/70/100%) and recyclable raw materials. They are part of a virtuous circle in terms of reprocessing and carbon balance. Plastic finds its place in cardboard packaging by offering a beautiful visibility on the product.»
Present on four continents with 20 locations and 200 employees, Cosfibel had 2018 revenues of $90 million. The group designs multi-material boxes and cases (metal, cardboard, wood, plastic ) for clients in the luxury goods industry.
