Fire at the German Siegwerk ink factory

Production has resumed "with some restrictions".

A fire broke out at the Siegwerk ink factory in Siegburg, Germany, which is the group's headquarters, last week.
According to preliminary information, on Saturday morning, May 22, a fire started during a solvent transfer operation and spread inside the building, says the manufacturer, which has 15 plants worldwide.

The plant's fire department quickly responded before being joined by area firefighters. About 330 firefighters were eventually deployed. "Special crews and special fire department equipment were mobilized as a precaution, explains the producer of printing and packaging inks. At the beginning of the operations, it was not yet clear how effectively and quickly the operational measures would work. Thanks to the intense and focused firefighting and the quick and careful response of the fire department, the fire was eventually limited to one production room and the spread of the fire to other buildings was prevented."

Two firefighters were injured during the operation and have since left the hospital. The exact origin of the fire is not yet known.

Siegwerk's production has gradually resumed "with certain restrictions". "At this time, we are not able to provide information on the damage caused."
