Acquisition: Reka printing company continues its development strategy

The printing company wants to become a "one-stop-shop" for printing and expand into new geographical markets.

After the takeover of Italux at the end of 2020 to integrate packaging printing, Reka in Luxembourg is continuing its development by taking over its main competitor, the printing company Weprint and its 21 employees. This doubles the company's production capacity and, with 84 employees, makes it the largest printing company in Luxembourg. Weprint now operates under the name of Reka.

This acquisition allows the printing company to get closer to its goal of being a "one-stop-shop", a one-stop shop for printing by offering any product. It targets the Luxembourg market but not only, "being now competitive at the level of the Greater Region" which includes regions in Germany (Saarland and Rhineland-Palatinate), Belgium (Wallonia), France (Lorraine) and the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, Reka said in a statement.

"Weprint is very digitalized, strong in color management, IT and process management in particular. It has an 8 color machine (a Ryobi perfecting press, Editor's note) This will allow us to offer higher volume printing and to go into segments that we were not doing before, explains Frédéric Gillen, head of Reka.

"We are moving forward, and this despite covid-19. We are building on the existing and our ambition is to continue our strategy of multiple developments, strengthening our current pillars and building new ones through external growth." adds the company manager. "We are clearly seeing a return to paper, which allows us to recreate a link and enhance communication. Currently, the demand is sustained: even if a lot of things have gone digital, we are tending more and more towards smaller print runs, more luxurious things or things that are difficult to print."

Mike Watgen, the head of Weprint and son of the founder, will accompany Reka in this transition during the first months.
