Cascades continues its expansion plan in the insulated packaging market

The Cascades Group inaugurates its second isothermal packaging production site in four months.

After the start-up in February of a new site in the Western United States in Tacoma, Washington, the Canadian paper manufacturer Cascades, which employs 10,000 people, is now expanding its presence in the East with the inauguration of the Cascades Enviropac plant in York, Pennsylvania.

Both plants are highly automated and specialize in the production of isothermal solutions, Cascades' Northbox line. They are part of the group's strategy to increase its production capacity and expand its geographic coverage in this growing market by targeting ready-to-eat and ready-to-cook meals delivered to the home, as well as fresh fish and seafood.

The Cascades Enviropac site produces a new reference, the Northbox Xtendtm recyclable lunch box. Made of recycled cardboard, this isothermal box has a barrier to ambient humidity that "preserves the freshness of food during long periods of time or in regions prone to higher temperatures while requiring less ice" says the manufacturer. Intended for home deliveries, this solution would offer 20% better insulation than its current solution.

"Since 2007, our recycled paperboard lunch boxes have been perfected to meet both operational and environmental challenges. Our expansion plan in the market is on track and reinforces our position as a strategic partner of proximity." says Luc Langevin, President and Chief Operating Officer of Cascades Specialty Products Group.

Cascades plans to offer only recyclable, compostable or reusable packaging by 2030.
