By becoming a stand-alone company, Munksjö will "accelerate its growth, strengthen its competitiveness and its global leadership in innovation".

The board of Ahlstrom-Munksjö is reorganizing its shareholding. The Finnish group will sell its majority share in one of its five businesses, the decor solutions business. The transaction is expected to be completed by the end of the third quarter of 2022, when the décor business will operate under the Munksjö name.

The decor business includes the production of decorative papers for various applications such as laminate flooring, furniture, partition walls, ceilings and wall coverings.
500 million, employs 1,200 people and operates six plants: in Unterkochen and Dettingen in Germany, in Tolosa in Spain, in Caieiras in Brazil, in Arches in France and, since January 2022, in Xingtai in China.

Munksjö had merged with Ahlstrom in April 2017 . At the time of the merger, Munksjö also included activities other than decoration, such as the production of release papers and packaging.

"The Decor business has been operating under the Munksjö brand for more than 25 years. And although in recent years it has been operated under the name Ahlstrom-Munksjö, the business is still known simply as Munksjö." says Ahlstrom-Munksjö.

Ahlstrom-Munksjö will become a minority shareholder by selling part of its shares to the Finnish investment company Ahlström Capital BV (60%), whose portfolio includes Ahlström Invest B. V., which itself has a significant stake in Ahlstrom-Munksjö, and the Swedish investment company Nidoco AB.

As an independent company, Munksjö "will accelerate its growth, strengthen its competitiveness and its global leadership in innovation".
